Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!

Today was Johnny Appleseed's Birthday. Yes, he was a real man! His real name was John Chapman and he was a preacher. He went across this great nation spreading apple seeds and the word of God. Today we celebrated him and ate lots of yummy apple inspired food!

First, we tasted apples this morning. Red, yellow, and green apples. Each child was able to taste the 3 different kinds of apples.

Then, we graphed! I love graphing!!! Beside each different color apple was a graph. We raised our hands if we liked the apple we had tasted. Then we graphed! I just love teaching Math this way. That's right, Math!!! Your children are laying the foundation for their educational careers here!! That is HUGE!!!! Bonus..... they had NO idea they were learning!!!

After we graphed we watch a short movie about Johnny Appleseed. I usually have a NO TV policy in my room, but this was a very short little movie. We had a little field trip and watched it in the Playroom.

After we watched all about Johnny and the harvest we had our own little apple celebration. We ate apples, apple pie, and apple sauce. We even had apple juice to drink.

I can't wait to see what apple "ing" work we create this week. Check back later on in the week to see what all we have learned!

F is for a Fantastic week in 4-K

We had amazing week!! One might be GREEN with envy!!!

We graphed again this week. I had to use a stamp, but all our friend got to use the dot markers again. Every time I bring them out, they are a big hit!!!

Leaping Lilly Pads!!! Your children love to paint!! That may be an understatement!!! So, I am going to make sure we paint every week!

I love these little green things! Lots of fun making these!!

I found these great little frogs at the dollar tree. I cut out Lily pads out of foam and then add water! You have a super fun sensory center!

Thanks for sending items for our color wheel!

Ask your child to sing about Funny Fish.

Adding to our capital letters.

Learning about the life stages of a frog.

Singing and dancing to "A- too- dee tah". A favorite in my class!!

Adding a page in our color book. It is so neat to see emerging readers!

This tiger is Timmy. Every week in chapel, Timmy gets to go back to the class that had exceptional behavior during chapel. This week Timmy gets to stay with us!! We were all so excited!! I am so very proud of our class!

More graphing!! I love to graph! I think it is because I have always hated math!! I want children to have a very good first encounter with number!! We read The Rainbow Fish, and then make our own school of rainbow fish out of lower case f's.

E is for an Excellent Week!

So much fun this week learning about the letter Ee and Eric Carle. We only read 3 of his many books,  The Little Cloud, The Tiny Seed, and The Grouchy Ladybug.

We sang all about the letter Ee. Ask your child if they can sing you the Ee song.

We learned how to write Upper and Lower case e's. Since we only have 3 days at school, I would encourage everyone to practice writing at home.

We learned how to graph our favorite Eric Carle story.

Our Eric Carle art we created. Each day we read an Eric Carle story and created special art.

Our Eric Carle wall.

Even the weather could not keep us from learning this week!

This week has been a very interesting week! That might be an understatement. I hope that next week will be a very smooth week! Even though this week was "interesting" we still managed to learn so much! Our theme was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which is a very popular children's book,  and your child might be able to quote the book. We read and listen to the book on cd. The book introduces all the letters of the alphabet in a beat that can't be forgotten.

Our special snack. A Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree.

All our friends really enjoyed making and eating our snack.

I just love this!!! What a fun way to learn the spelling of your name!! I saw this on Pinterest, and I just knew I had to make it with my class this year!

We filled in another page in our color book.

I wanted to have a really great art activity for black day, and I had a very hard time thinking of something. On our very rainy holiday, I went blog surfing  to find a great activity. I came across and idea and made it into something that would work for my class. Today, we read Miss Nelson is Missing, by James Marshall. It is a favorite in my class, and has been for years. In the above picture we had a great language development time by comaparing our class and Miss Nelson's class.

Now, it was time to create our Miss Viola Swamp's. Black Day was a huge hit!!! Thanks to this fun little activity!

I think it is so neat to see how different each child can create art with the same materials!

UPDATE!!!

We will begin Kindergarten at 9:00 in the morning, September 7th. Please bring something black to school tomorrow. We will have school on Thursday to make up the day we missed today. Also, please wear something black to school Thursday, because Thursday will be our black day.

Crazy Weather!

Hi everyone,
I am writing to you from the Chick Fil A parking lot. I am without phone and Internet, but I wanted you to know the game plan. As of right now, school is on for tomorrow. Things can change quickly when the weather is involved, so make sure to check Fox 6 news for our school closing. We also go by Jefferson County. If they are closed so are we, unless you hear different. If we do have school tomorrow, I have asked Susan for  a make up day on Thursday. She said yes. After all, you are paying for it! If we do not go to school tomorrow we will make up on Thursday and Friday of this week. It is so difficult to cover everything in 3 days, but it is impossible to cover our curriculum in 1 day. Make sure to spread the news and I will be in touch. I hope to see everyone tomorrow!
