A very Apple"ing" Week.

I really love teaching about apples. It is such a fun unit and so much to learn. We cover so much during this unit.

Lot's of number matching this week. Your children as so smart. Did you know that your child could match numbers all the way to 8!!!

Painting apples are always interesting. I love to watch the process in which each child paints. Everyone is so different in their approach. Have I mentioned that your children love to paint!!!!

Apple Stamping is very, very fun!!! We cut the apples in half, then we look at the star inside the apples. Inside those stars are the seeds. We took the seeds out and explored them. We touched them and talked about how something so tiny can become a delicious piece of fruit. Then we stamped the apples in paint and painted.

In an earlier post I showed you how we graphed apples this week. We also had a language development activity all about red, green and yellow apples. During this activity we talked about each apple. How it tasted, how it felt, and what it looked like. Then we wrote the words on paper and put these words by our apples we stamped.

This little activity was a " Listen and Do" activity. We started with a lower case a. Then the class was told to color their a red, with a marker. After we colored it was time to make a brown stem, then a green leaf. Last, it was time to add seeds. This was a tricky part, but your children did very well. We needed to only add seeds in a star shape with 5 points. I am very proud of my super listeners!!!

When teaching apples, I like to teach about the seasons and how an apple tree looks in each season. We discussed Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. We made apples trees in the spring and apple trees in the fall ready for harvest. We used pink tissue paper to make the apple blossoms, then we stamped our fingers to make the apple tree ready for harvest.

After we ate all the apple inspired food we graphed again. I always love to see how each child will vote on a favorite.

I can't wait for our Fire Safety Unit this week. Lot's of things to learn with talking about safety. Talk to your child tonight about your family escape plan. I will be asking tomorrow if they know the family plan. Also I have 2 special snacks I would like to serve this week. Do I have 2 parent volunteers that would like to help with special snack this week.? If you would like to help please email me mrskendrawolfesclass@gmail.com. See you tomorrow.
